INSPECTING
The purpose of inspecting firefighter turnout gear is to determine the serviceability of the ensemble and if repairs are required or if the gear needs to be retired.  Here at Alberta Fire Gear Cleaning we perform a routine inspection after every cleaning.  We also provide Advanced Inspections which, according to NFPA 1851, should be performed once a year on all turnout gear under 10 years of age (after 10 years turnouts should be retired).

Advanced Inspections include a full evaluation of the:

  • Outer Shell

  • Thermal Liner

  • Moisture Barrier (Hydrostatic Tested)

During an inspection we evaluate:

  • Physical damage such as rips, tears, wear, abrasions
  • Hardware damage or missing
  • Thermal damage such as burns, charring, melting or discoloration of materials
  • Seam integrity, worn or missing stitches
  • Material integrity
